Evans Mills/Dundee: Beverly J. 'Betty' Cornish, age 82, currently of Evans Mills, NY, formerly of Dundee, NY, died Thursday, July 25, 2013, with her family at her side at Samaritan Medical Center, Watertown, NY. Honoring her wishes, there are no prior calling hours. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm Monday, August 19, at the Baird Funeral Home, 36 Water Street, Dundee, with Pastor Lew Ann Giles officiating. Inurnment will be private in Hillside Cemetery, Dundee, NY. Memorial contributions may be made to Dundee Fire Company Emergency Squad, 12 Union St., Dundee, NY 14837.

Beverly was born December 19, 1930, the first child of the late Delbert L. and Jennie Mattason Woodard Sr. She graduated from Dundee Central School in 1949. On July 10, 1949, in Dundee, she married Donald M. Cornish. 'Betty,' as she was called by her friends, returned to school after raising her family, graduating from Fox Hospital Nursing School in Oneonta, receiving her LPN in 1976. She lived in East Worcester, NY, from 1961-1983, during which time she worked as an LPN for The Meadows at Cooperstown and also at Cobleskill Hospital for 3 years. Retiring in 1982, she and her husband moved to Frostproof, Florida, in 1983. Donald passed away on May 23, 1998, and soon after she returned to Dundee, where she lived until 2008 when she moved to Evans Mills to live with her daughter.

Mrs. Cornish was a member of First Baptist Church in Oneonta, having attended the Dundee Baptist Church when she lived in Dundee. Over the years, she had been very active in many organizations including the East Worcester Fire Dept. Ladies Aux.; was an Assistant Leader of the Worcester Girl Scouts Indian Hills Council, the Dundee Rebekah Lodge, Crystal Valley Grange, Crystal Valley Home Bureau, was a co-leader of the Crystal Valley Eager Beavers 4H Club, and several bowling leagues.

She is loved and will be dearly missed by a son, Barry D. (Lolene) Cornish of Kirkwood, NY; 3 daughters, Cheryl L. (Allen) Reed of Worcester, Jean Y. (David) Baker of Hudson, FL, Dawn E. Haskins, with whom she made her home in Evans Mills, NY; 8 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Delbert L. (Dorine) Woodard of Crystal Valley, NY, Daniel L. (Rose) Woodard of Springville, NY; 2 sisters, Elizabeth Howell and Connie (Carl) Christensen, both of Dundee; numerous nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and her husband, she was pre-deceased by a brother, Donald Woodard, in 1975.
