Barbara S. Denhoff
WATERLOO – Barbara S. Denhoff, 97, passed away Saturday, June 20, 2026, with her loving son by her side, in Seneca Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Family and friends may call from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 30th at the First United Methodist Church, 21 E. Williams St., Waterloo, NY. The memorial service will immediately follow at 11 a.m. at the church. Rev. Laura Calos, former pastor of the Waterloo United Methodist Church, will officiate. The committal service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 1st in the Lansingville Cemetery, Lansing, NY.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Waterloo United Methodist Church, 21 E. Williams St., Waterloo, NY, 13165.
Barbara was born March 12, 1929, the daughter of Robert F. and Florence U. Kent Smith. She was a 1946 graduate of the Ludlowville High School. Barb went on to attend Cornell University. She was raised on a farm and for many years worked the family farm with her family. Barb was secretary for the Lansingville Cemetery Board for many years and served as President for 12 years. Being a compassionate person, she also worked as a home health aide. Strong in her faith, Barb was a former member of the Lansing United Methodist Church. She was a very active member of the Waterloo United Methodist Church where she served on committees and started the Haiti Ministry. She, along with church parishioners, raised hundreds of dollars to help build homes, schools, and churches in Haiti. Barb took many people to Haiti to help with constructing buildings, working in schools, and numerous other tasks to help the Haitians.
She is survived by her son Mark Meal of Waterloo, NY; stepson Robert E. (Tricia) Denhoff of Penfield, NY; stepdaughters Robin (Joseph) Graham of Woodbridge, VA, and Terry (Phil) Steinruck of Texas; six grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Barb was predeceased by her husband Robert E. Denhoff; brother Norman Smith; and sister Roberta Chenoweth.
