Anne M. (McNabb) Greer
Anne M. McNabb Greer, 95, of Throop, passed away Thursday, July 9, 2026, surrounded by her loving family, in the Commons on St. Anthony.
Born in Auburn on April 14, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Emmett and Marguerite Lawler McNabb and was a graduate of Holy Family High School, Class of 1949. She was a proud veteran, having served with the United States Marine Corps. In 1953, Anne married her late husband Richard L. Greer and earned the title Marine Corps Wife of the Year.
A trailblazer of her time, she was always involved with local politics as well as several civic and veteran organizations. As a veteran, she was an active member of the American Legion Skaneateles Falls Post 317 as well as the VFW Post 1975 in Auburn.
Anne was enthusiastic about her Irish heritage and was a proud 70-year National Life Member of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians (LAOH), helping charter the Auburn Ladies Division in 1951. She held numerous Division, County, and State Offices, including acting as the secretary of the National Hibernian Office for 30 years in Auburn, when her late brother Tom McNabb was National Secretary of the AOH. In addition, she formed the local Jr. Girls Division of the LAOH, was instrumental in fighting and lobbying for "The Great Hunger" to be added to the curriculum in schools when learning of Ireland's Potato Blight, and in bringing Irish children to Central New York through Project Children.
She was employed for many years as a teacher's aide with Cayuga Onondaga BOCES and was a key contributor to bringing the Special Olympics to Cayuga County. All of Anne's achievements, though noteworthy, paled in comparison to her memory and the ability to write a note or send a card to all of her grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, classmates, and almost every person in her life. There was never a time that a birthday, anniversary, or one of life's special moments went unnoticed, thanks to Anne. She will be fondly remembered and forever missed.
Anne is survived by her children: daughters Margaret L. Drancsak (John) and Maureen A. Carberry; sons John E. Greer (Cheryl) and Kevin R. Greer (Patricia Robinson); grandchildren Mackenzie Tabone (Tony), Marshall Ziegler-Greer (Meghann), John Drancsak (Jennifer), Molly Kreydatus (Brian), Devin Carberry, Garrett Carberry (Jaclyn), and Timothy Carberry (Jaide); nine great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Yolanda McNabb and Bridget McNabb; and several loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her parents and husband Richard, Anne is predeceased by two sisters, Aileen Squires (Forrest) and Jane Entenmann (Frank); four brothers, Dennis McNabb (Elizabeth), Jack McNabb, Bernard McNabb (Roselyn), and Thomas McNabb; and son-in-law John Carberry.
