Dundee: Anna M. "Annie" Howell, age 78, of Dundee, NY, died Sunday, August 17, 2014, at Keuka Comfort Care Home in Penn Yan, NY. Friends are invited to call from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM Wednesday (Aug. 20) at the Baird Funeral Home, 36 Water Street, Dundee; where her funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday (Aug. 21) with Rev. Lucinda O'Leary officiating. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Dundee. Memorial contributions may be made to Keuka Comfort Care Home, P.O. Box 107, Penn Yan, NY 14527.
Anna was born August 4, 1936, in the town of Starkey, NY, the daughter of the late Leon R. and Margaret M. Lusk Coon. She graduated from Dundee Central School in 1955 and continued her education at "The School of Hard Knocks." A lifelong local resident, she worked her entire life in the restaurant business, having been employed by various locations in Western NY, including "The Bag Piper" Dundee, "Lakeside Country Club" Penn Yan, "The Knotty Pine" Branchport, "McSeagulls" Sodus Point, and "Main Street Restaurant" Dundee, retiring in 2005.
Mrs. Howell was a member of Dundee Presbyterian Church, the Dundee V.F.W. American Dads, an Honorary Member of the Dundee American Legion, a member of the Montour Falls Women of the Moose, and a former member of the Dundee Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary. In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing and was an accomplished seamstress. She was an "Awesome Grandma & Great Grandma" and was an avid NASCAR fan and devoted #3 Dale Earnhardt fan.
She is loved and will be dearly missed by her 3 sons, Steven K. Howell of Webster, NY, and Ronald A. Howell and Randy S. (Lisa) Howell; and 2 daughters, Debra A. (Mike) Naylor and Wendy L. Cagle, all of Dundee; a dear daughter-in-law, Jayne Howell of Dundee; 7 grandchildren, Noah Naylor, Kristie (Peter) Germano, Stefanie (Mike) Furlong, Jamie (Mike Miller) Cagle, Trisha Howell, and Samantha & Nicholas Gavigan; 5 great-grandchildren, Jaedyn J. Brewer, Riley M. Miller, Allessa Germano, Keiarra Howell, and Cameron Michael Furlong, born exactly one hour after Annie passed away. She will also be missed by 3 sisters, Shirley Meyers, Beverly (Harry) Carlyon, and Barbara (Bob) Trank, all of Dundee; and numerous nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
Besides her parents, she was pre-deceased by a sister, Betty E. Smith, in 1998; a brother, Robert L. Coon, in 1999; 2 grandsons, Jason Naylor, in 2002, and Keith Cagle, in 2006; and her husband and father of her children, Kenneth Howell, in 2013.
