Zachary R. Pifer, 26, of Dundee, died unexpectedly Feb. 20, 2026, following an unknown medical emergency.
Born Dec. 12, 1999, he was the son of Daniel Pifer and Megan (Kurtz) Howard.
Pifer earned a bachelor’s degree in science and biochemistry from the University of Southern California and worked as a chemist at Norwich Pharmaceuticals. Family members described him as having a brilliant mind and a unique personality, with a distinctive outlook on life.
He is survived by his father, Daniel Pifer of Wayne; his mother, Megan (Doug) Howard of Wayne; three siblings, Madison Pifer, Caden Tobias Howard and Matthew “Charlie” Howard; his paternal grandparents, Royce and Lynn Pifer of Bath; his maternal grandmother, Maureen Kurtz of Wayne, who was predeceased by her husband, Ronald; his great-grandmother, Carmelita Tomich; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Calling hours will be held Sunday, March 1, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Royce-Chedzoy Funeral Home, 212 E. Fourth St., Watkins Glen, followed by a funeral service at 3 p.m. Burial will take place Monday, March 2, at 10 a.m. at McDowell Cemetery.
The family encourages attendees to wear a colorful or zany accessory in honor of Zack’s memory.
