William Taylor

William DeForest Taylor, Sr., 92, passed away Tuesday January 21, 2025 at Penn Medicine Princeton Medical Center in Plainsboro, NJ.

In keeping with William's wishes, there will be no calling hours. The graveside service will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday May 14, 2025 at Maple Grove Cemetery, Waterloo, N.Y. Dr. Rev. Floyd Marsh, Pastor of Harvest Field Baptist Church, will officiate.

William was born May 14, 1932, the son of Noah and Minnie Near Taylor. He was a 1950 graduate of Eastwood High School, and went on to receive a Bachelor of Arts of Social Studies and Education from Houghton College in 1954. William was a veteran of the Korean War, serving from 1954-1956. After serving his country, he began teaching in the Sherwood Central School district, where he taught for 2 years, then the Plattsburgh School District for 3 years, and finally taught in the Lyons Central School District until retirement. While teaching in Lyons, he worked to become certified as a principal. William was a member of the Harvest Field Baptist Church, as well as the NYS Retired Teachers Assoc. and the Seneca Co. Retired Teachers Assoc., the Houghton College Alumni Assoc., the Seneca Co. Habitat for Humanity, the Waterloo Library & Historical Society, and the SPCA.

William is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 62 years, Rilla S. Taylor; son William "Scott" D. Taylor, Jr. of Franklin Park, NJ; and daughter Joan A. Taylor of Marco Island, FL.
