Shirley M. Travis passed away peacefully on Monday, January 19, 2026, at Light Hill Comfort Care in Canandaigua, NY, after a long and fulfilling life.
Shirley was born in Penn Yan on June 7, 1932, the daughter of Irving and Leila Havens. She enjoyed her childhood in Benton Center and graduated from Penn Yan Academy in 1950. In 1951, she married Charles Travis. While raising their four children, Shirley served as Head Teller at Security Trust Plaza Bank.
After retiring, Shirley and Charles spent many winters traveling across the country, exploring the beauty and wonders of the United States. They also faithfully attended countless sporting events of their beloved grandchildren and hosted many family gatherings at their Seneca Lake home of 37 years. One of their most cherished places was their “getaway” camp in Old Forge, located in the Adirondack Mountains.
Shirley was an avid reader and loved the challenge of difficult jigsaw puzzles. She was a gifted storyteller, sharing vivid tales and details from her life’s adventures. She also enjoyed a bit of luck on her family’s gambling trips. Shirley was the matriarch of her family, full of strength and character, and deeply loved by both family and friends.
She was predeceased by her husband, Charles, with whom she shared 60 years of marriage; her parents; and her brother, George Havens.
Shirley is survived by her four children, Linda, Sandra, Stephen, and Brian, along with daughter-in-law Terri Travis; six grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and her brothers, Irving and Charles Havens.
There will be no calling hours per Shirley’s request. The family will hold a private interment at Benton Cemetery at a later date.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at Light Hill Comfort Care for their sincere care and support during Shirley’s final days.
