Senah Gowan

Senah W. Gowan, age 55, passed away peacefully, on Tuesday, June 18, 2024, with her family by her side.

She is survived by her husband of 17 years, Bill Gowan; two children, Kia M. Doherty and Adelaide "Maude" Doherty; two step-children, Bonnie (Steve) Wellman and Robyn (William) Freeman; mother and stepfather, Judy and Jim Nadal; brother, Nick (Tamasin) Kekic; two step-siblings, Blas (Katie) Nadal and Pilar Nadal (Toben Cooney-Callnan); two nieces, Gwendylan and Hazel Kekic; and mother-in-law, Bonnie (David) Lancaster.

She was predeceased by her father, Thomas W. Kekic in 1984.

Senah was born in Rochester and raised in Bristol. She attended Naples schools through the 9th grade. Senah graduated from the New Hampton School in New Hampshire. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from St. Lawrence University. Senah earned a master's degree in education and a master's degree in special education, both from Nazareth College. While in college, Senah spent a semester in Kenya and later returned to Africa to volunteer teach in Ghana.

She taught special education at Midlakes High School for over 25 years. Senah was very devoted to her students, and they loved her. She enjoyed skiing and formerly taught skiing at Bristol Mountain. Senah also enjoyed reading, embroidery, music, comedy, her hobby sheep farm and spending time with family and friends.

Friends may call Monday, (June 24), from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., at Johnson-Kennedy Funeral Home, Inc., 47 N. Main St., Canandaigua. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held Tuesday, (June 25), at 11 a.m., at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mary Lally Memorial Award, Finger Lakes Federal Credit Union, 1934 Route 96, Phelps, N.Y. 14532 or House of John, 14 Spring St., Clifton Springs, N.Y. 14432
