HomeObituariesSadie O’Brien Sadie O’BrienNewark, NY SHARE NOW Sadie O'Brien, 85, of Newark, passed away Saturday morning, November 18, 2023. Sadie was born on April 4, 1938. in Noordwiik, the Netherlands. After World War II, she. along with her parents and 12 siblings, immigrated to America. Sadie was very proud of her Dutch heritage, but was equally proud to live in America. Sadie graduated from Marion High School (Marion, NY) in 1956. Shortly after, she met the love of her life, Edison O'Brien. They wed in 1957, and raised five children together. During these years, Sadie sang in the church choir, taught Sunday School, and became famous for her baked goods. It was not surprising when her pies would auction off at a fundraiser for $800! During these early family years, Sadie also graduated with honors from the Marian Whalen School of Practical Nursing. She was a gifted nurse, who cared for people at Newark Wayne Hospital for over 20 years. If you knew Sadie, you knew she was a woman of strong convictions, and possessed an unshakable faith in her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She and Ed were devoted to their home church and Christian school, from where all five children graduated. After retirement, she stayed busy by providing childcare to many children, reading, and baking for her family. Her beautifully knit hats and mittens have blessed hundreds of people, from grandchildren to strangers, as they were sent in care packages all over the world. Sadie lived her life for others. Sadie is predeceased by her husband, Edison O'Brien, as well as her parents, many siblings, her husband's siblings, and her son-in-law, Robert Zonneville. She is survived by her children: Deb Zonneville, Jeanne (Tom) Mackey, Edward (Brenda) O'Brien, Don (Julie) O'Brien, and Mark (Darren) Pena-O'Brien. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Leanne & Ryan, Katelyn & Donnie, Candace, Jessica & Nick, Tommy & Teri, James & Amy, Cody & Jen, Meghan & Peter, Shannon, Caitlin, Connor & Joy, Jacob, Jack, Noah & Tori, Zack & Gina, Hannah, and many others who consider her "Grandma". Visitation will be on Tuesday, (November 21), from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at East Palmyra Christian Reformed Church (2057 E Palmyra Port Gibson Rd, Palmyra, N.Y. 14522). Funeral services will begin at noon. A luncheon will be served after.
