Rita Mumby

Rita Evelyn Mumby, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully on April 28, 2025, at the age of 92.

Friends may call on Saturday, May 3, from 1 p.m. - 2 p.m. at Reed Corners Federated Church. A memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. Burial will be at the Gorham Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in Rita's memory to Reed Corners Federated Church 4030 State Route 247, Canandaigua, N.Y. 14424.

Rita was born in Dunmore, PA on June 22,1932 to the late Anthony and Mary Scartelli DeStefano. Rita was raised in Bloomfield, N.Y. with her three siblings on her grandfather's farm. She graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1950. Rita worked and raised her four children in Penn Yan, N.Y. for 35 years.

Rita was a devoted wife to Robert "Bob" Mumby whom she married in 1988. She was a nurturing presence in the lives of their blended family of children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Rita was the heart of our home and family. Rita and Bob were married for 31 years and resided in Canandaigua where they both loved spending time with their family and friends. They enjoyed traveling all throughout the United States and spending many winters in Bonita Springs, FL. Rita was known for her warm smile, welcoming and kind soul and her unwavering love and dedication to her family and friends. Rita was a wonderful mother and wife who was always there when we needed her the most, offering support, wisdom and love in abundance.

Rita is survived by her children, Lonnie (Debbie) Nielsen, Kelly (Charlie) Green, Sandy (Michael) LaCrosse; step-children, Steve (Sharon) Mumby, Carol (George) Foote and Kathy (Tom) Clark; grandchildren, Morgan, Shawna, Natalie, Aaron, Chris, Matthew, Mary and Molly; great-grandchildren, Kennedy, Quinn, Jace, Jackson, Declan, Miles, Barrett, Carter and Claire; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Rita was predeceased by her husband Bob Mumby; daughter, Charlene Nielsen; and her siblings Marie Pantaleo, Michael DeStefano, and Ann Landers.
