
Richard L. Axtell Sr., of Dundee, on January 12th, 2025 at 10:55 a.m., a giant of a man passed on at the age of 74 surrounded by his family.
Richard L. Axtell, Senior, was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, papa and friend. ‘Dickie’ was a giant in the sense that his personality was shown bright with his great sense of humor, his stories about his glory days and how much he expressed his love to each and every one of us. He always knew how to make an entrance and everyone smiled when they saw him coming. ‘Dickie’ was a mechanic by trade for most of his life. He worked for the Dundee Central School bus garage for many years both as a mechanic and a driver. Richard collected classic cars most of his life. His favorite pastime was to wheel and deal and show off his latest purchase. He loved Helen and the rest of his family so very much. Richard will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife Helen Axtell, his children Nanci (Robert) Clark, Jack (Shelley) Ayers, Bobbie-Jo(Scott) Cadwell, Danny (Patsy) Morris, Tammy (Chris) Kerr, Richard Jr. (Miriam) Axtell, Kelly (Alicia) Anderson, Cathy(Allan) Piner, Larry (Leslie) Scofield, Liz (David) Waite and bonus kid Allen Earl. His brothers Larry Nageldinger, Dwyte (Carryl) Nageldinger, Larry (Elsie) Axtell, his sister Cathy Krnotch, and bonus brothers, Mark Johnson, Barry Shade, and Les Burd; 29 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his parents Frances & Floyd Nageldinger and Lawrence Axtell; sisters, Barb Champlin and Theresa Nageldinger; brothers Terry Axtell, Eddie Nageldinger, and Troy Nageldinger; grandchildren Ethen Eslickand Joe Cadwell.
A celebration of life will take place at the Dundee American Legion, 10 Spring St. Dundee, NY 14837 on Saturday, January 25, 2025. The family will receive friends starting at noon. A memorial service will start at 1:00 pm and a reception will immediately follow. Memorial contributions may be made to Dundee Fire Company, 12 Union St., Dundee, NY 14837.
