1955-2023

Phillip Brian Hubbard, age 68, of Horseheads, NY moved from his earthly home to his eternal home in the first hour of Thursday, November 16, 2023, in the comfort of his home with his wife at his side, after a long and courageous battle against a rare progressive neurological disorder, Corticobasal Ganglionic Degeneration.

Honoring his personal wishes, he was a donor to Brain Research at Harvard Medical, hoping to help others stricken with this most rare disease. There will be no public calling hours or funeral service. He will be buried privately with Military and Correctional Officer Honors and the Reverends David & Larry Semans officiating at Maple Grove Cemetery, Horseheads, NY.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully prefers those wishing to make memorial contributions to Family Life Network 7634 Campbell Creek Rd., Bath, NY 14810; the Faith Baptist Church, 13 Harpending Ave., Dundee, NY 14837; or CareFirst, 3805 Meads Creek Rd., Corning, NY 14870; all of which were so wonderful throughout his final years.

Phillip was born May 2, 1955, in Xenia, OH, the only son of the late Owen Bentley and Martha Jane (Deck) Hubbard. He graduated from Cedarville High School in 1974, and attended Sterling College in Kansas, before serving three years in the U.S. Army. After his Honorable Discharge with Expert Marksman both M16 and pistol, along with First Class Hand Grenade. Phillip continued his education credentials at Cedarville College and Central State University.

On July 11, 1981, in Yellow Springs, OH he married the former Robin Ann Raabe. They moved to New York from Cedarville, OH in 1982; he entered the Correctional Officer profession, retiring as a Lieutenant at Elmira Correctional Facility, in Elmira, NY, having served at Attica, Groveland, Southport, Queens Correctional Facilities during his 30-year career.

Phil was an avid movie fan, especially enjoying family musical films starring Dick Van Dyke. He was a major sports enthusiast, with Baseball being #1, Football #2, and rarely missing any Ohio State games. His other passion was that of a numismatist.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 42 years, and sole caregiver of 6 years, Robin Ann Hubbard; a daughter Sarah Ann Price-Smith of Canton, OH; son Phillip Andrew Hubbard of Elmira, 10 loving grandchildren he was so proud of; 4 sisters Loraine Hubbard of Cedarville, OH, Susan Hubbard of Job, West Virginia, Nancy Kiskis of Tipp City, Ohio, and Pamela (John) Robinson of Xenia, OH; along with several nieces & nephews.

The family and especially his wife, extend a most gracious thank you to Dr. Frederick Marshall of the University of Rochester Memory Care Program; and Melissa, Brandy, Tara, and Patsy of Care First Hospice for all their help and loving care of Phil.
