Louis R. LaMay
1935-2025

Louis R. LaMay, age 89, of Horseheads, N.Y. died Friday January 31, 2025 at St. Joseph's S.N.F., in Elmira, N.Y.

Louis was born March 18, 1935 in Brooklyn, NY, the son of the late Leonard and Wilhelmina (Andrea) LaMay. He graduated from George Washington Vocational High School in Brooklyn in 1953.

He entered the U.S. Army in May of 1960. While serving, he graduated from Fort Monmouth Signal School, Fort Monmouth, NJ specializing in Basic Electronics and Radar. He was stationed at White Sands Missile Range, in White Sands, N.M. performing maintenance and repair of guided missile systems. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant E5 (T) in May of 1962. Louis put his military experience to good use, having a very wide range of jobs all with some form of electronics experience required. The list of employers being very broad; CBS Columbia, Long Island City, NY; Sonic Industries, Lynbrook, NY; Western Union, Minneapolis, MN; Esquire Radio, Brooklyn, NY; Westinghouse Electric Corporation, Horseheads, NY as an Electronic Technician; National Cash Register, Ithaca, NY as an engineering Technician; Arnot
Ogden Medical Center, Elmira, NY as a Biomedical Engineering Technician; Toshiba Display Devices as a Calibration Technician, Electronic Equipment Mechanic, and Technical Trainer; and lastly, Securitas Security Services USA, as a NYS Licensed Security Guard.

On May 23, 1980 he married the former Joan M. Trojanowski. He continued his education graduating from Corning Community College in 1981. Always wanting to increase his knowledge, he graduated from SUNY Binghamton Watson School of Engineering at the age of 59, in 1994.

When Louis wasn’t working or studying, he enjoyed coin collecting, had an eye for antiques, especially Edison Phonographs, Civil War History, reading and playing Sudoku. Sunday’s found him attending Maple Ave. Baptist Church in Elmira.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years Joan M. LaMay at home; a sister in law Kay LaMay of Washington, IA; a niece Dorcas (Robert) Jarrard of Washington , IA; and a nephew Philip (Michelle) LaMay of Wexford, PA.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a brother Robert LaMay in 2013.

There were no prior calling hours; a private graveside committal service was held on February 4, 2025 in Tyrone Union Cemetery, Tyrone, N.Y. with Pastor Mark Hickey officiating.
