Leslie Jay Aunkst, 86, of Geneva, NY, formerly of Waterloo, passed away Monday, January 26, 2026, at his home with his loving family by his side.
Born October 17, 1939, in Waterloo, he was the son of Francis and Marjorie Scott Aunkst and a 1958 graduate of Waterloo High School. Les served in the Army National Guard and spent many years working at American Can in Geneva. He later worked as a mill manager for Seedway in Hall, retiring after a long career.
He is survived by his wife, Judith A. Courtney Aunkst; his children, Amy (Thomas) Park of Waterloo and Tim (Tammy) Aunkst of Jacksonville, North Carolina; grandchildren Tiffany (Carlos) Patino, Tia Zulu, Adi and Bergen Aunkst-Park; and great-grandchildren CJ, Evan, Lucas, Liana, Tessa, and Emery Jay.
Les was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Ralph Aunkst.
Family and friends may call from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, February 7, at the Coe-Genung Funeral Home in Waterloo. A memorial service will follow immediately, officiated by Pastor Jim VanHooft of the Waterloo United Methodist Church. Burial will take place in the spring at Maple Grove Cemetery in Waterloo.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Waterloo Volunteer Fire Department or Disabled American Veterans
