Joyce Arlene Knight, age 84, of Watkins Glen, NY passed away on Monday, September 30, 2024, in the comfort of her home, surrounded by her loving family.
Honoring her wishes, there will be no formal calling hours. Family and friends are invited to her memorial service at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, at the Burdett Fire Department, 4124 State Route 79, Burdett, NY; which will be followed by a Reception & Celebration of Her Life from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m.
Per Joyce’s request, memorial contributions should be made to any organization that will help children, if the donor chooses.
Joyce was born June 7, 1940, in Corning, NY, the daughter of the late Walter Emanuel and Lila Mae Bebee Blake. She started her career at the A&P Plant in Horseheads, before accepting a position as an Inspector for Corning Glass. Her love of helping people led her to become a C.N.A. providing home healthcare to many area residents, but her greatest joy was providing daycare for her many grandchildren.
On November 3, 1979, in Alpine, NY she married the late Norman Gary Knight, who passed away on November 12, 2022. A lifelong area resident, Joyce was a devoted member of the Altay Baptist Church and a member of the Montour Falls Ladies of the Moose, She co-founded Boating for a Cure on Seneca Lake with her husband, and for a while, she was a Friendly Homes Dealer and a Tupperware dealer.
She is loved and will be forever missed by her son Theodore W. (Debbie) Pipe of Burdett; 4 daughters Karen E. Arnold of Watkins Glen, Holly M. (William) DeGraw of Cayuta, Sandra Z. (Billy) Earl at home, and Marcella M. Bordonaro of Penn Yan; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; a sister Marjorie Lee Blake Carpenter of Cleveland, N.C.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents and her husband, she was pre-deceased by an infant daughter Tina; a son Bruce D. Pipe Sr.; a great-granddaughter Paula May DeGraw; 5 brothers, and 1 sister.
