Jeanine Schoonover, a devoted caretaker and loving mother, passed away unexpectedly on January 17, 2026.

She is survived by her son, Schaefer Scarritt; her siblings, Jeanette Cleveland and William T. LeRoux III; her stepfather, John J. Sebring; and many beloved nieces and nephews, as well as their children.

She was predeceased by her parents, William T. LeRoux Jr. and Sandra A. Sebring, and her brother-in-law, Dale E. Cleveland.

Jeanine was born on June 25, 1972, in Montour Falls. She grew up locally and graduated from Dundee High School in 1990. As a young adult, she married and moved south, eventually settling in Daphne, Alabama, where she raised her only son surrounded by close friends. In 2009, Jeanine returned to New York, where she worked as a Direct Support Professional.

Jeanine was a passionate and empathetic soul who cared deeply for those around her. She consistently went out of her way to brighten someone else’s day. Her memory will live on through the lasting impact she made on the lives of everyone who knew her.

Relatives and friends are invited to call on Saturday, February 7, 2026, from 1 to 3 p.m. at Vedder-Scott & Zinger Funeral Home, 122 N. Genesee St., Montour Falls. A memorial service will follow at 3:00 p.m.
