Carol M. Kniffin, age 85, of Penn Yan, previously of Dundee, formerly of Hornby, NY died Sunday, February 2, 2025 at Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Hospital, in Penn Yan, NY.
Honoring her wishes, there will be no prior calling hours. A memorial graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family in Central Valley Cemetery, Hornby, NY at a later date. Carol was born Dec. 30, 1939 in Wellsboro, PA, the daughter of the late Floyd L. and Elizabeth (Lawton) Root. On April 2, 1960 in Hornby, she married the late Stanley P. Kniffin who preceded her in death on Sept. 17, 2009. Carol was a homemaker; and loving wife and mother all of her life; but she will be remembered as a school bus driver for Dundee Central School and she also drove bus for the A.R.C. of Yates for several years. Mrs. Kniffin was a Life Member of the New York Steam Engine Assoc. and loved horses.
She is survived by 2 daughters Maxine M. (Harold Lafler) Kniffin of Penn Yan, Marilyn M. Kniffin of Lansing, NY; a son John Stanley (Helen) Kniffin of Penn Yan; 10 grandchildren, Wade Kniffin, Karl Paul (Sarah Gilbert) Davis, Daniel Kniffin, Brandon Mead, Andreanna (Olivia Gibbs) Kniffin, Samantha Bell, James Pinneo, Tony Pinneo, Devin Armstrong, and Alyssa Armstrong; 2 great grandchildren Damion Hall, and Aryen Ingersoll; 3 sisters, Janice (Lyle) Rolson, Beverly VanEttan, and Dawn Root; along with several nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, and her husband, she was pre-deceased by 2 brothers Alfred Root, and Thomas Root; and a sister Donna French.
