49-thousand dollars is coming to the Newark Fire Department to purchase new protective equipment.
The volunteer department will buy 14 sets of turn out gear and two self-contained breathing apparatuses. This new equipment will help keep the village’s firefighters safe while risking their lives to perform their duties.
Mayor Jonathan Taylor stated in a press release, “The men and women of our Volunteer Fire Department dedicate their time, talent, and resources to ensure public safety in our community. They are leaders in their field. We are thankful for the opportunities this grant award allows us and look forward to enhancing our department with the new turn out gear and breathing apparatuses.”
Fire Commissioner Christopher Burgess commented, “Congratulations to our volunteer fire department, who are continuously looking to improve their services for our community. We are very fortunate to have such dedicated volunteers.”
Funding for the gear comes from a New York State Assistance to Firefighters Grant.
