The William Smith soccer team won its fifth straight match, closing out the regular season with a 4-1 victory over St. Lawrence on Cozzens Field this afternoon. Unbeaten in their last seven matches, the Herons secured the No. 2 seed in the Liberty League Tournament and will host a semifinal on Friday, Nov. 8.
William Smith controlled possession throughout the match, 61% to 39%. The Herons outshot the Saints 33-3, including 18-1 in the first half.

- William Smith improved to 11-3-3 overall, 6-1-2 in the Liberty League.
- St. Lawrence ended its season with an 8-7-2 overall mark, 2-5-2 in conference play.
SCORING SUMMARY
- The scoring started in the 22nd minute. Ireland Krawczyk fired a shot from the top of the box that SLU goalie Darcie McDonough (10 saves) got just enough of a touch on it to direct it off the crossbar. The rebound came to senior Moira van der Putt who sent a looping shot toward the right side of the goal. A Saints’ defender tried to clear it out of the six, but instead sent it into the left side of her own goal.
- William Smith took a 2-0 lead into halftime thanks to a late foul in the penalty area against St. Lawrence. Junior Ruth Hotaling buried her shot for her fourth goal of the season.
- Van der Putt earned an assist in the 61st minute, crossing a ball from the left side to senior Marissa Mastracco, who redirected it into the goal for her second score of the year.
- The Saints broke up the shutout in the 87th minute. Madison King-Thurber’s shot got past Heron senior goalie Kirsten Nelson, who lost her footing on the play and saw the ball slip through her hands as she stumbled to the ground. Maille McMahon assisted on the goal.
- Twenty-five seconds later, senior Lindsay Ringbloom headed home her team-leading sixth goal of the season, finishing a cross from sophomore Rachel Lee.
