The William Smith cross country team finished second in the 5-kilometer SUNY Poly Wildcat Weekend Classic today. Senior Hope Johnson led the Herons, placing second in a field of 67 runners.
Johnson crossed the finish line in 24 minutes, 17.2 seconds, 14.3 seconds behind the winner. Sophomore Bella Miller also placed in the top 10 for William Smith, finishing eighth in 25:05.4.

TEAM STANDINGS
- With five runners in the top seven, including overall winner Olivia Grinnell, St. John Fisher won the team title by 24 points over William Smith.
- The Herons were 27 points ahead of third place Hartwick.
- Hudson Valley CC, Keuka, Herkimer County CC and SUNY Poly rounded out the team standings.

- William Smith will have a week off before returning to racing Oct. 11 in the Houghton Highlander Invitational.
