Utica Rolls Over Keuka Men’s Lacrosse, 21-6

The Keuka College Men’s Lacrosse team lost an Empire 8 Conference game 21-6 at Utica University on Saturday.

Harrison Root (Jefferson, N.J. / Jefferson Township) led Keuka College (3-6, 0-3 Empire 8) with three goals. Austin Holsclaw (Queensbury, N.Y. / Queensbury) added a pair of goals for the Wolves.

The Wolves struck first on Saturday as Harrison Root found the back of the goal with Tre Lloyd (Canandaigua, N.Y. / Canandaigua Academy) getting the assist less than two minutes into the game. However, Utica responded with six straight to take the lead. Root got his second of the game with 19 seconds left in the quarter, but Utica won the ensuing faceoff and scored with two seconds left on the clock to lead 7-2 after one.

The late goal sparked a run of seven unanswered goals as the Pioneers took control of the game. Keuka College got two back just before half. Austin Holsclaw scored with 100 seconds left and then Mitchell Wise (Greece, N.Y. / Hilton) found Kaleb Glessing (Ontario, N.Y. / Wayne) for a goal just before halftime, but the Pioneers were ahead 13-4.

Utica University put together another run with seven straight goals through the third and into the fourth quarter. Keuka College got tallies from Holsclaw and Root late in the fourth, but the game was in hand as Utica University defeated Keuka College 21-6.

KC Notes:

  • The Pioneers have won the last six games against the Wolves. Utica leads the all-time series 11-4
  • Saturday was the sixth hat trick for Harrison Root in his nine games played
  • Cole Davis (Brockport, N.Y. / Brockport) won a personal best 10 faceoffs for the Wolves
  • Jaxson Tucker (Canandaigua, N.Y. / Canandaigua Academy) made 13 saves in the game, giving himself an even 100 for the season
  • Mitchell Wise had an assist for the Wolves, but he saw his eight-game goal streak snapped. The first-year attack had scored in every game this season before Saturday

Up Next for Keuka College: The Wolves stay on the road on Wednesday with another tough test. Keuka College will play at Nazareth University on Wednesday, April 9.
