The Keuka College Baseball team lost at SUNY Poly 11-7 on Friday in an Empire 8 Conference game.
Alex Evans (Liverpool, N.Y. / Liverpool), Derek Novicki (North Haven, Conn. / North Haven), and John Valinoti (Babylon, N.Y. / Babylon) each had three hits for Keuka College (11-19, 5-13 Empire 8). Carlos Fantauzzi (Canandaigua, N.Y. / Canandaigua Academy) and Ethan Drinon (Middleburgh, N.Y. / Schoharie) each added two hits and two RBIs for the Wolves.
The Wildcats took the early lead over the Wolves on Friday with four runs in the first inning and three more in the second. SUNY Poly added a run in the fourth before the Wolves broke through in the fifth.
Alex Evans led off with a double and scored on a double Carlos Fantauzzi as the Wolves got on the board. Fantauzzi’s double was followed by singles by Derek Novicki and John Valinoti. Novicki’s hit scored Fantauzzi. Ethan Drinon then had his first career triple to score Novicki and Valinoti and cut Poly’s lead in half to 8-4.
The Wolves got one more back in the sixth on a Kyle Wood (Newark, N.Y. / Newark) sacrifice fly, but the Wildcats responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning.
Keuka College continued to fight as Carlos Fantauzzi hit an RBI single in the eighth. Kyle Wood followed with a steal of home to make it 11-7. However, that would close the scoring for both teams and SUNY Poly held on for the 11-7 victory.
