Hobart and William Smith Athletics and the HWS Committee on Athletics recently hosted the inaugural 4.0 student-athlete breakfast, celebrating the Herons and Statesmen who have earned a 4.0 or higher GPA during the spring 2024 or fall 2024 semesters.
All 30 of HWS’ varsity teams were represented at the breakfast with at least one student-athlete achieving a 4.0. During the spring semester, 101 student-athletes posted a 4.0 while in the fall the number was 94.
The spring semester’s top teams on the field were also the top performers in the classroom. William Smith lacrosse not only advanced to the national semifinals last season but also saw 11 of the team’s 34 players post a 4.0 GPA. On the Hobart side, the Statesmen skated to the Division III Men’s Hockey Championship for the second year in a row, while nine players posted a 4.0.
This past fall, William Smith cross country led the pack with nine Herons recording a 4.0, while also securing the team title at the CCOC Championship for the third year in a row. Football was the top Hobart team with six 4.0 GPAs, while also winning the Liberty League Championship.
In addition to celebrating with their coaches, the honored guests also invited a member of the faculty to join them at breakfast.
