The Hobart baseball team lost a 3-1 decision in the first game of a three-game weekend series at Farmingdale State this afternoon. The Statesmen brought the go-ahead run to the plate in the top of the ninth, but the Rams were able to nail down the win.

Hobart starting pitcher, senior Griffin Snyder faced only nine batters through three innings, erasing a second inning single with double play.
Farmingdale State’s Johnny Dougherty matched Griffin’s strong start. He didn’t allow a hit in three innings of work, facing just two over the minimum.
TURNING POINT
- In the fourth inning, the Rams sent Michael Camardi to the mound. Junior Will Jones broke up the no-hitter with a single to right, but the game remained scoreless.
- In the bottom half of the inning, the home team broke through for two runs.
- With one out and runners on the corners, Richie Heyder was caught stealing, but while he was in the run-down, Mike Kocovic scrambled home for the game’s first run.
- The next batter, Vincent Deiosso, walked and later scored when Jordan Lambert lifted a fly ball into center field that was dropped.
Hobart got a run back in the top of the fifth. Sophomore Cole Conte led off with a double. Senior Owen Sanders followed with a bunt single that moved Conte to third. With one out, senior Nate Johnson brought Conte home when the Rams’ shortstop threw the ball away attempting to start a double play.
Farmingdale State restored its two-run lead with an RBI single in the bottom of the fifth.
THREATENING
- Hobart managed to put two runners on base in the sixth and the ninth, but couldn’t manufacture another run.
- A double play allowed the Rams to escape the sixth unscathed.
- In the final inning, Conte delivered his second hit of the game, putting runners on the corners with one out.
- Junior Derek Torres was brought in to face the next batter and got a swinging strike out.
- The Rams then turned to Tyler DiRocco, who got a ground ball out to earn the save.
