Cayuga Community College Men’s Basketball dropped a road game to Hudson Valley Community College on Saturday.
The Spartans stayed with the Vikings in the first half but couldn’t overcome Hudson Valley shooting better than 53 percent from the field, losing 96-68. Rian Hall led the Spartans with 15 points, while also contributing two rebounds and two steals.
The teams traded baskets early in the first half before the Vikings built a 17-point lead. A late run by the Spartans in the first half, including a three-pointer from Gerod Jackson and several baskets by Amaree Samuel, cut the Vikings’ lead to 11 at halftime.
In the second half, the Vikings started on an 8-0 sprint before free throws by Jorge Jimenez and a layup by Solomon Mitchell halted Hudson Valley’s run. The Spartans were unable to cut the Vikings’ lead to single digits in the second half, though.
Samuel finished with 10 points and a team-high eight rebounds. Jackson and Tony Borges each had nine points and two assists, with Borges also grabbing seven rebounds. Wylik Coleman and Jimenez had eight points, with Coleman also finishing with three rebounds.
Cayuga’s last game of the Fall 2024 semester is Sunday, Dec. 8, at SUNY Adirondack. Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
