Bills Fire Head Coach McDermott

The Buffalo Bills are heading into a new chapter after another disappointing playoff exit. The team has fired head coach Sean McDermott.

The move comes less than two days after Buffalo’s 33–30 overtime loss to the Denver Broncos, marking the latest postseason setback under the 51-year-old coach.

McDermott is credited with transforming the Bills from one of the league’s struggling franchises into a consistent AFC contender. In the decade before his hiring in 2017, Buffalo finished last in the AFC East six times and posted just one winning season.

He made an immediate impact in his first year, guiding the Bills to a 9–7 record and their first playoff appearance in 18 years, with Tyrod Taylor at quarterback. After a 6–10 season during Josh Allen’s rookie year, Buffalo emerged as a perennial playoff team.

The Bills went on to win five straight AFC East titles from 2020 through 2024 and reached the postseason in each of the past seven seasons.
