Cayuga Community College Men’s Basketball earned a pair of Region III wins this weekend against Clinton Community College and North Country Community College.
The Spartans moved to 4-9 on the season and 4-7 in Region III play with the weekend sweep, which saw them defeat Clinton on Saturday by a 102-90 final and North Country 80-73 on Sunday.
In the Clinton game, Cayuga led from start to finish behind forward Marcus Pasha’s 39 points. The Spartans made seven three-pointers in the first half and led by 11 at halftime. They led the whole second half, growing the lead to 20 points before a late Clinton rally cut the final margin to 12.
Along with Pasha’s 39 points, Tony Borges had 20 points, Desean Strachan had 16, and Jorge Jimenez had 11.
Against North Country on Sunday, the Spartans made 11 three-pointers and led by single digits for much of the game. Cayuga took the lead on a Strachan and-one in the first half, and eventually built a nine-point lead. A late rally from North Country made it 42-40 Cayuga at the break. North Country tied the game in the second half, but a three-pointer from Borges gave Cayuga a four-point lead with more than four minutes left, a lead they didn’t relinquish the rest of the game.
Borges led Cayuga with 26 points and five three-pointers, with Strachan finishing with 24 points and Pasha with 18.
Cayuga is home again on Wednesday, Jan. 22, to host Genesee Community College. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
