The Keuka College Women’s Field Hockey team suffered an 8-0 defeat at Utica University on Saturday afternoon in an Empire 8 conference clash.

Jordan Nichols (Deposit, N.Y. / Afton) recorded eight saves in goal for the Wolves and Anna Dewey (Sidney, N.Y. / Sidney) contributed on offense with two shots on goal.

The Wolves started the game with a strong defensive stance, with Jordan Nichols stopping an early shot by Utica in the 5th minute. Keuka earned several penalty corners in the first period, but Utica’s goalkeeper turned away shots by Alexis Dodge (Verona, N.Y. / Vernon-Verona-Sherrill) and Tori Nelson (Vernon Center, N.Y. / Vernon-Verona-Sherrill). Utica broke the deadlock in the 12th minute with a penalty stroke goal, followed by a rebound goal just over a minute later, putting the visitors up 2-0 at the end of the first period.

Utica continued to apply pressure in the second period, with Nichols making multiple saves to keep the Wolves in the game. However, the Pioneers added to their lead to go up 5-0 going into the break.

The Pioneers continued to control the game, adding two additional goals in the third. The fourth period saw more of the same, with Utica capitalizing on their offensive opportunities. However, with a new goalkeeper in, Nijeylie Torres (East Irondequoit, N.Y. / Eastridge) was called to action with two saves in the final minutes. The Pioneers won the game 8-0.

KC Notes:

  • Jordan Nichols is now the school record holder in career saves with 433

Up Next for Keuka College: The Green and Gold will look to bounce back with two nonconference matchups next week. The Wolves will host SUNY Morrisville on Tuesday, October 8. The game will also be a Staff and Faculty Appreciation Night
