The Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference announced its postseason awards today. William Smith senior Michaela Morgan (Oak Ridge/The Woodlands, Texas) was voted the Bowler of the Year for the second straight season, while Head Coach Heather Sterner earned a share of her second straight Coach of the Year award.
The Herons placed two bowlers on the All-AMCC teams. Morgan represented the team on the first team, while sophomore Colleen Jump (Dana L. West/Port Byron, N.Y.) garnered second team honors.
Morgan was the top ranked AMCC player in PCPI, leading the conference in pins per frame (19.371) and Baker pins per frame (20.343). She ranked second in the AMCC in fill percentage (80.7%), strike percentage (48.6%), anchor bowler 10th frame average (19.914), anchor bowler 10th frame fill percentage (85.7%) and 10th frame double percentage (25.7%). Morgan bowled two 200 games in the second AMCC round robin this year, finishing third in total pinfall (1,288).
Sterner shared the Coach of the Year award for the second straight year with Saint Vincent Head Coach Jeff Zidek. Sterner guided the Herons an 11-3 record in AMCC play, finishing second in the AMCC regular season and a runner-up finish in the AMCC Championship Tournament. William Smith, which completed its third varsity season, played a very challenging schedule, posting a 40-44 overall record.
Jump, who was an All-AMCC first team pick last season, was eighth in the AMCC in PCPI this year. She led the conference in setup bowler 9th frame strike percentage (57.1%) and split conversion percentage (50.0%). She ranked second in the AMCC in split leave percentage (6.8%), third in spare conversion percentage (66.7%) and fifth in fill percentage (79.7%) and single pin spare percentage (84.6%). Jump bowled a 203 in the team’s 940-922 win over St. Vincent in the second AMCC round robin.
