Le Moyne College Moving to NCAA Division I

SHARE NOW

Athletes at one area college will soon play in Division I sports.

Le Moyne College has accepted an invitation to join the Northeast Conference (NEC), moving their 21 NCAA teams from Division II to Division I.

In July, the college will formally begin the process of being reclassified to DI. In the Fall, athletes will begin competing in the Northeast Conference. For 2025-26, all athletic programs will be eligible for NEC postseason play but will be ineligible for NCAA competition until the 2027-2028 academic year.

This transition process is designed to allow the college time to strengthen its teams and programs for DI play.

“The move to Division I and the Northeast Conference is a milestone event for Le Moyne College,” said President LeMura. “Since the College’s founding in 1946, athletics has been a vital component of our Jesuit ideal of cura personalis – care for the mind, body and soul. By making this move, we are building on a strong foundation of excellence that has been a hallmark of our student-athletes and our programs.”
