Keuka College senior Brooke Bonetti (Seneca Falls, N.Y. / Mynderse Academy) set a school record with 11 goals as the Wolves defeated SUNY Poly 19-9 to open Empire 8 play.

Bonetti’s performance bested the previous record of nine goals set by Kendall Neuberger in 2019 and tied by Brenna Voigt two weeks later.

Katie Deatherage (Canandaigua, N.Y. / Marcus Whitman) also had a strong game for Keuka College (4-2, 1-0 Empire 8) with three goals and a pair of assists for a career-best five total points.

The Wolves started slow on Saturday as SUNY Poly scored the first four goals of the game. Katie Deatherage ended the run with a tally with 2:03 left in the first. The Wildcats led 4-1 after the opening quarter

SUNY Poly reestablished the four-goal advantage in the opening minute of the second quarter, but the Wolves featured their quick-strike offense in response. Rosie Wallace (Oswego, N.Y. / Oswego) won the draw control for the Wolves and found Brooklyn Ayers (Penn Yan, N.Y. / Penn Yan Academy). Ayers found Bonetti who scored for the Wolves just 13 seconds after the Wildcats scored. However, Bonetti did one better. She won the following draw and scored just five seconds after her first goal to cut the lead to 5-3. Each team would add a goal in the following minutes to make it 6-4 Wildcats. Keuka College then scored six goals in the final 6:40 of the half to outscore SUNY Poly 9-2 in the frame and lead 10-6 at the half.

The Wolves kept rolling in the second half as Brooke Bonetti scored four straight to push the run to 10 unanswered goals. The Wildcats got one back with 46 seconds remaining, but Keuka took a 14-7 lead into the final quarter.

The offense kept rolling for the Green and Gold. Keuka outscored SUNY Poly 5-2 in the fourth with Bonetti scoring three and Tori Nelson (Vernon Center, N.Y. / Vernon-Verona-Sherrill) adding a pair. The Wolves continued on to the 19-9 conference victory.

KC Notes:

  • Keuka College improves to 10-3 all-time against SUNY Poly
  • Saturday was the first meeting between the two teams as members of the Empire 8 Conference. Keuka was 6-1 in conference games against SUNY Poly when the two were members of the North Eastern Athletic Conference
  • Bonetti’s 11 goals tied for the most by an Empire 8 Conference player this season and tied for third-most in a game by a player in NCAA Division III this season
  • Rylie Pratt (Ontario, N.Y. / Wayne) led the Wolves with seven ground balls and seven draw controls on Saturday
  • Rosie Wallace had six draw controls for the Wolves, a personal best
  • Brooklyn Ayers finished with four assists in the game

Up Next for Keuka College: Saturday opened the Empire 8 schedule for the Wolves. Keuka College is next in action on Wednesday, April 2 with a tough test playing on the road at Alfred University. The Wolves then return home for a pair of games starting with Utica University next Saturday.
