Keuka College Women’s Soccer opened their Empire 8 Conference play with a 3-1 loss to Alfred University on Saturday evening.
Shayla Vetter (Rochester, N.Y. / Hilton) scored a goal for the Wolves for the second game in a row, while junior goalkeeper Elianna Wilder (Victor, N.Y. / Victor) recorded five saves in goal.

Alfred University controlled the ball early, and although Keuka goalkeeper Elianna Wilder made three saves to open the game, Alfred found the back of the net to take a 1-0 lead. Just six minutes later, Alfred added another goal, doubling their lead. The Wolves continued trying to find offensive opportunities in the first half but were unable to capitalize, with Alfred holding a 2-0 lead at the break.
In the second half, Alfred extended their lead with another goal in the 53rd minute, making it a 3-0 game. The Wolves fought back with several attempts on goal by Delaney Goodenow (Rochester, N.Y. / Hilton) and Chaise Willis (Greece, N.Y. / Greece Athena), but they were unable to break through until the 84th minute. Keuka’s offense clicked when Delaney Szostak (Marion, N.Y. / Marion) assisted Shayla Vetter for her second goal of the season, making it a 3-1 game. Despite the late comeback, Alfred held on for the 3-1 victory.
