Keuka Women’s Lacrosse Loses to Allegheny in Season Opener

SHARE NOW

The Keuka College Women’s Lacrosse team lost at Allegheny College 14-7 in a non-conference game on Saturday afternoon.

Brooke Bonetti (Seneca Falls, N.Y. / Mynderse Academy) led Keuka College (0-1) with three goals. Brooklyn Ayers (Penn Yan, N.Y. / Penn Yan Academy) scored two goals and added an assist for the Wolves. Lauren Vitello (Webster, N.Y. / Webster Schroeder) made 16 saves in goal.

The Gators jumped out to a 2-0 lead over the Wolves, but Keuka College responded. Katie Deatherage (Canandaigua, N.Y. / Marcus Whitman) scored on a free-position shot. Rosie Wallace (Oswego, N.Y. / Oswego) won the ensuing draw control. Ayers ended with the ball and fed Bonetti for the goal to tie the game at 2-2. However, Allegheny used the same plan as they took the lead back 28 seconds later. That sparked a run of five straight for Allegheny to build a 7-2 lead after the first.

The run continued as the home team scored three more goals. Bonetti snapped the goalless drought for the Wolves 53 seconds before halftime with a woman-up goal, but Allegheny scored before the final horn to lead 11-3 at the half.

After assisting on Bonetti’s goal to end the first half, Rylie Pratt (Ontario, N.Y. / Wayne) scored her first collegiate goal with Liz Spin (Auburn, N.Y. / Auburn) getting the assist. The teams would trade goals as the Gators scored. Brooklyn Ayers notched a tally for the Wolves, but Allegheny answered back again as the Gators took a 13-5 lead into the final quarter.

Ayers scored her second goal of the game to start the fourth quarter. Brooke Bonetti followed with a goal to cut the margin to six with seven minutes left to play. However, that would be as close as Keuka would make it. The Gators scored in the final seconds and defeated the Wolves 14-7.

KC Notes:

  • Saturday was the first-ever women’s lacrosse meeting between Keuka College and Allegheny College
  • The Wolves are now 4-6 in their last ten season openers
  • Brooklyn Ayers and Rylie Pratt recorded their first collegiate goals in their first collegiate games
  • Lainie Forde (Waterloo, N.Y. / Waterloo) posted a pair of assists in her first collegiate game
  • Tori Nelson (Vernon Center, N.Y. / Vernon-Verona-Sherrill) led the Wolves with four groundballs
  • Lauren Vitello set a new career-high with 16 saves

Up Next for Keuka College: The Wolves will play their first home game of the year on Tuesday as Keuka College hosts Thiel College at the Jephson Community Athletic Complex. The Wolves will look to pay back the Tomcats as Thiel defeated Keuka in Pennsylvania last season.
