SHARE NOW

The Keuka College Women’s Basketball team earned their third straight victory, defeating SUNY Delhi 85-54 on Saturday afternoon at the JMW Recreation and Athletics Center.

Rebounding was key to the Keuka College (4-3) victory as the Wolves collected 65 bards as a team, third-most in program history. Ellen Lavonas (Rochester, N.Y. / Brighton) had a career-high 14 rebounds for the Wolves. Brooke Burd (Canisteo, N.Y. / Canisteo-Greenwood) and Janea Hamilton-Brown (Liverpool, N.Y. / Liverpool) each recorded double-doubles. Burd had 15 points to go with her 12 rebounds. Hamilton-Brown had 11 points and 12 rebounds. Mary Cotter (Hershey, Pa / Hershey) had a game-high 19 points for the Wolves.

The Wolves came out firing, jumping out to a 10-2 lead over SUNY Delhi. The Broncos cut the margin down to five, but that would be as close as they would make it. An offensive rebound and layup by Brooke Burd gave Keuka a 16-9 advantage midway through the quarter. That started a run of eight unanswered for the Wolves. Mary Cotter’s second three of the game pushed the lead up to 14. SUNY Delhi narrowed the game, but Keuka College led 26-11 after one.

Keuka College continued to find the bottom of the basket, shooting a game-high 52.4% in the second quarter. The two teams traded points for most of the quarter. A driving layup by Caiden Crego (Lyons, N.Y. / Lyons) was followed by a three from Sydney Brown (Lowville, N.Y. / Lowville Academy) and a layup by Katie Deatherage (Canandaigua, N.Y. / Marcus Whitman) as the Wolves closed the half with a 7-0 run to lead 51-27 at the break.

SUNY Delhi cut into the lead in the third, but Keuka again used a 7-0 spurt to re-establish their lead. Mary Cotter hit a transition three for the Green and Gold as Keuka carried a 69-41 lead into the final quarter.

The Wolves kept attacking in the final quarter. Keuka College outscored the Broncos 16-13 on their way to the 85-54 victory.

KC Notes:

  • Keuka College improves to 3-0 all-time against SUNY Delhi
  • It was the second double-double of the season for Brooke Burd and the first of the career for Hamilton-Brown
  • Saturday was the first time Keuka College had two players record a double-double in the same game
  • Combined with Lavonas’ effort, the Wolves had three players record double-digit rebounds, an accomplishment last achieved ten years ago in November 2014
  • Isabella Colon (Pine Bush, N.Y. / Pine Bush) also scored in double figures. The senior guard set a new career-high with 11 points on Saturday

Up Next for Keuka College: The Wolves will look to keep it rolling and close out their homestand a perfect 4-0. The final game of the stretch comes on Tuesday, November 26 as Keuka College hosts Alfred State at 5 p.m.
