The Keuka College Women’s Basketball team lost on Wednesday night 77-54 to Utica University in an Empire 8 Conference game at the JMW Recreation and Athletics Center.

Keuka College finishes the season with a 5-20 record while going 0-16 in the conference.

Brooke Burd (Canisteo, N.Y. / Canisteo-Greenwood) led the Wolves with her fifth double-double of the season. The sophomore had 10 points and 13 rebounds in the loss. Caiden Crego (Lyons, N.Y. / Lyons) tied Burd for the team lead in scoring with 10 points as well.

Keuka College took a quick 4-3 lead over the Pioneers, but Utica answered with seven straight to build a lead. The Wolves snapped the run with a three by Mary Cotter (Hershey, Pa. / Hershey). Keuka kept Utica within reach. A three by Sophia Babcock (Oswego, N.Y. / Oswego) cut the margin down to one in the final minute, but Utica answered with a layup to lead by three, 20-17, after the first.

The Wolves took advantage of the opening possession with Sydney Brown (Lowville, N.Y. / Lowville Academy) hitting a jumper, but Utica answered back with 10 straight. Lillian Mullen (Canisteo, N.Y. / Canisteo-Greenwood) snapped the six-minute drought with a jumper. Mullen later hit a three on Keuka’s last possession to keep the margin at single digits going into halftime. Utica led 39-30 at the break.

Keuka College rattled off five straight in the middle of the third quarter. Caiden Crego found Brooke Burd for a layup. Katie Deatherage (Canandaigua, N.Y. / Marcus Whitman) then got a steal and Sydney Brown knocked down a three with Lillian Mullen getting an assist. The flurry made it a six-point game. That, however, would be as close as Keuka College would make it. Utica reestablished a double-digit advantage and led 55-44 going into the final quarter.

The Pioneers closed the game out, outscoring the Wolves 22-10 in the fourth to defeat Keuka 77-54.
