The Keuka College Women’s Basketball team faced Alfred University on Saturday afternoon in an Empire 8 Conference matchup, but fell 86-57 to the Saxons.
Lillian Mullen (Canisteo, N.Y. / Canisteo-Greenwood) led Keuka with 15 points, including three three-pointers, while adding a rebound and an assist. Brooke Burd (Canisteo, N.Y. / Canisteo-Greenwood) posted a near double-double with 12 points and eight rebounds. Sydney Brown (Lowville, N.Y. / Lowville Academy) also scored in double figures, finishing with 11 points.
Alfred came out strong in the opening quarter, jumping to an early lead. Sydney Brown hit a layup to open the scoring for Keuka, and Brooke Burd followed with a jumper to keep the Wolves close. However, Alfred’s shooting gave them a 22-14 advantage after the first quarter.
In the second quarter, Keuka found offensive rhythm as Lillian Mullen connected on two three-pointers, cutting the deficit to ten. Ellen Lavonas (Rochester, N.Y. / Brighton) added rebound and layup off the bench to keep the deficit at ten with 3 minutes left. Alfred’s continued successful shooting from the field allowed them to extend their lead to 47-28 at halftime.
Keuka battled evenly with Alfred in the third quarter, with both teams scoring 15 points. Mullen continued to lead the offense, scoring on two layups, while Brown added another three-pointer. Despite the Wolves efforts, Alfred maintained their advantage, heading into the fourth quarter with a comfortable 62-43 lead.
In the final quarter, Keuka showed resilience, with Mullen and Burd contributing key baskets. Mary Cotter (Hershey, P.A. / Hershey) hit a jump shot late, and Gianna Padula (Holland Patent, N.Y. / Holland Patent) scored a layup in the closing seconds. However, Alfred’s consistent offense throughout the game proved too much to overcome. The Wolves dropped the conference matchup 86-57.

· Keuka College moves to 16-20 in the all-time series with the Saxons. The 45th meeting between the two teams, is second most in program history behind Cazenovia (57)
· Katie Deatherage (Canandaigua, N.Y. / Marcus Whitman) led the team on the boards, collecting nine rebounds
· Sydney Brown has now made 176 three-pointers in her career, second most in the Keuka record books
· Mary Cotter has surpassed 200 rebounds in her career
