Keuka Women Drop Road Game at Nazareth

The Keuka College Women’s Basketball team lost on the road at Nazareth University 84-55 in an Empire 8 game on Saturday afternoon.

Mary Cotter (Hershey, Pa. / Hershey) led Keuka College (5-12, 0-7 Empire 8) with a season-high 20 points. Lillian Mullen (Canisteo, N.Y. / Canisteo-Greenwood) added 11 points for the Wolves. Brooke Burd (Canisteo, N.Y. / Canisteo-Greenwood) recorded her third double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

Mary Cotter scored the first five points of the game for the Wolves, but the Golden Flyers led 9-5 two minutes into the game. Cotter stayed hot later in the corner as she hit a corner three to cut the Nazareth advantage to four at 17-13. However, the Golden Flyers closed on an 11-0 run to lead 28-13 after one.

The run continued for Nazareth as they scored the first seven points of the second quarter. Lillian Mullen snapped the run with a three for the Wolves. The Golden Flyers used the start to outscore the Wolves 18-10 in the period and lead 46-23 at the half.

The Wolves had their best quarter of the game coming out of halftime. Keuka College outscored Nazareth 18-13 in the frame. Mary Cotter hit a three for the Green and Gold midway through the third. Sophia Babcock (Oswego, N.Y. / Oswego) followed with a three-point play for the Wolves as Keuka cut the margin to 14 at 52-38. The Golden Flyers responded with seven straight. Janea Hamilton-Brown (Liverpool, N.Y. / Liverpool) found Lillian Mullen for a three at the buzzer, but Nazareth led by 18 going into the final quarter.

The Golden Flyers got hot from three to close the game out. Nazareth outscored Keuka College 25-14 in the fourth behind five three-pointers to defeat the Wolves 84-55.
