The Keuka College Women’s Basketball team lost 58-46 in an Empire 8 Conference game at Elmira College on Tuesday night.

Caiden Crego (Lyons, N.Y. / Lyons) led Keuka College (5-15, 0-11 Empire 8) with 13 points. She also assisted on three buckets and tied for the team lead with five rebounds. Mary Cotter (Hershey, Pa. / Hershey) was also in double figures with 11 points in the loss.

The Wolves held an early 6-3 lead, but a triple by Elmira tied the game midway through the first. The Soaring Eagles would outscore the Wolves 9-1 after tying the game to lead after the first.

Keuka College cut into Elmira’s lead in the second quarter. Ellen Lavonas (Rochester, N.Y. / Brighton) stole the ball and Mary Cotter found Kaite Deatheridge (Canandaigua, N.Y. / Marcus Whitman) in transition for a bucket. Cotter would follow with a three-point play on the next possession and Lillian Mullen (Canisteo, N.Y. / Canisteo-Greenwood) capped the 7-0 run with a layup following another Lavonas steal to cut the margin to one. The Wolves took the lead with a steal and layup by Caiden Crego towards the end, but Elmira made the last basket of the half to lead 28-27 at the break.

The lead would trade hands multiple times early in the third quarter. Elmira built a six-point lead, but a layup and three by Mary Cotter quickly cut the margin back to one. However, Elmira scored the final five points of the quarter to take a 44-38 advantage into the final quarter.

Keuka scored the first points of the quarter, but four points would be as close as the Wolves would make it. Elmira College pulled away at the end to defeat the Wolves 58-46 on Tuesday.
