The Keuka College Women’s Volleyball team celebrated Senior Day on Saturday afternoon with a tri-match against SUNY Poly and St. Lawrence University. The Wolves split on the day beating Poly 3-0 in the morning and dropping the game in the afternoon 3-1 to St. Lawrence.
Dayna Edholm (Buffalo, N.Y. / Sweet Home) led the way offensively for the Wolves, combining for 25 kills on the day. The Keuka attack continues to run through the hands of Casey Hunziker (Rome, N.Y. / Rome Free Academy), as she recorded 48 assists in the two matches.
Keuka College 3 vs. SUNY Poly 0 | 25-17, 25-16, 25-22
Keuka College came out swinging, with Edholm quickly putting the Wolves on the board with a kill. Hunziker followed up with two service aces, sparking an early 4-0 lead. SUNY Poly narrowed the gap, but Keuka’s momentum carried them through the end of the set. The win included kills from Maddy Drake (Horseheads, N.Y. / Horseheads) and Gabby Fenton (Buckeye, Ariz. / The Odyssey Institute of Advanced and International Studies). The Wolves went on to win set one 25-17.
Keuka came out aggressively in the second set, with Edholm and Fenton combining for early kills. The Wolves extended their lead and continued to capitalize on Poly offensive errors.. Despite SUNY Poly’s attempt to close the gap, multiple kills by Bryn Straub (Irondequoit, N.Y. / Irondequoit) and consistent net play saw Keuka pull away and win the set 25-16.
The Wolves maintained their momentum in the third set, with Hunziker dishing the ball across the roster for kills. As SUNY Poly battled back to tie at 16 and go on an additional three-point run, another kill from Straub would end their streak. In the final moments, Gabby Rodriguez (Floresville, Texas / Floresville) added an ace to a four-point swing in the Wolves’ favor, and Keuka closed out the set 25-22, securing a 3-0 match victory.
St. Lawrence University 3 vs. Keuka College 1 | 25-20, 28-26, 16-25, 25-20
The teams traded points early on, with kills from Edholm and Nina Scott (Honeoye Falls, N.Y. / Honeoye Falls-Lima) keeping Keuka in the game. The set saw multiple ties and lead changes, but the Saints started to pull away with the set tied at 15. St. Lawrence took set one 25-20.
In a close second set, Keuka pushed St. Lawrence to extra points. The Wolves offense featured contributions from middle blockers Bryn Straub and Sydney Haust (Seneca Falls, N.Y. / Mynderse Academy). With the set at 24-23, kills from Edholm kept the Wolves in contention. However, St. Lawrence matched each point, ultimately edging Keuka 28-26 in a tightly contested finish.
The Wolves came out strong in the third set, with tough serves from Hunziker and sharp attacks from Edholm, who led Keuka’s offense. A block by Maddy Drake added defensive support, allowing Keuka to control the pace and build momentum. The Wolves stayed focused and closed out the set with a 25-16 victory.
In the final set of the tri-match, Keuka battled to keep the game alive. Edholm’s service ace and an early kill by Scott fueled the Wolves to a lead. Despite close scoring and critical plays by Haust and Straub, St. Lawrence ultimately pulled ahead, finishing the set 25-20 and taking the match 3-1.
Next Up for Keuka College: The Green and Gold will close out their season in a home match against Fredonia on Friday, November 8. The first serve is slated for 6 p.m.
