Keuka College Volleyball traveled to Delhi on Saturday for a tri-match with Delhi and Alfred State College. The Wolves took down the Broncos in three quick sets but fell to Alfred State 3-0 in game two.

Keuka College 3 vs. SUNY Delhi 0 | 25-8, 25-21, 26-24

The game started with Keuka getting an early two-point lead, but the Broncos responded quickly. The back and fourth trend continued until Keuka found themselves with an 11-8 lead. Casey Hunziker (Rome, N.Y. / Rome Free Academy) set the ball to Dayna Edholm (Buffalo, N.Y. / Sweet Home) for the kill to give the Wolves a four-point lead. From there, SUNY Delhi did not score another point. Keuka went on a 13-0 run which included six kills from Edholm and two service aces from Gabby Rodriguez (Floresville, Texas / Floresville). Keuka won set one 25-8.

Set two continued with a similar pattern as the first. With the game tied at two, Keuka went on a seven-point run to get a 9-2 lead. The run included attack kills from first-year students Gabby Fenton (Buckeye, Ariz. / The Odyssey Institute of Advanced and International Studies) and Lilah Cousins (Denver, Colo. / Westminster). After the Broncos responded with two points, Keuka quickly answered with another large run. Bryn Straub (Irondequoit, N.Y. / Irondequoit) and Gabby Fenton combined for four points in a five-point stretch. Delhi fought back to get the game within three points, but the gap was too large to close. The Wolves took the second set 25-21.

Keuka took advantage of Bronco’s errors to start the third with an early 3-0 lead. The game remained close for set three, with the largest lead of only four points. Two service aces contributed to the Keuka score from Edholm and Jessica Throop. With the score continuing to stay close, Keuka won the final set in extra points 26-24.

Alfred State College 3 vs. Keuka College 0 | 25-20, 25-19, 25-17

Alfred State got out to an early 3-1 lead. From there, the Wolves answered with a 6-2 run with Edholm leading the offense. The outside hitter contributed to the run with two kills and an ace from the end line. The Pioneers had an answer to tie up the game at 10-10, followed by a 7-2 lead of their own. Keuka fought back and kills from Fenton and Straub brought the game back within one. However, the gap proved too large to close and the Pioneers took set one 25-20.

Gabby Rodriguez got an ace early on to help the Wolves get a 4-1 lead to start the second set. SUNY Delhi then capitalized on some Keuka errors, resulting in an 8-1 run. Keuka battled to close the gap but the Pioneer offense persisted. Delhi took set two 25-19.

The third set was a game of runs on both sides of the net. Each team took turns finding their offensive rhythm to give themselves the lead. The two Keuka outside hitters ran the Keuka offense combining for nine of the 17 points for the team. Despite their efforts, Delhi would take the final set to win the match 3-0.

Up Next for Keuka College: The Green and Gold will stay on the road and travel to Clinton, NY for the Hamilton College Invitational. Keuka will play SUNY Morrisville on Friday, September 13, and follow up with Hamilton College and St. Lawrence University on Saturday, September 14.
