Keuka Softball Splits with Elmira College on Senior Day

KEUKA PARK, N.Y. – The Keuka College Softball team split their doubleheader against Elmira College on Friday afternoon on Senior Day.

Keuka College (11-25, 3-11 Empire 8) defeated Elmira College 1-0 with a walk-off hit in the bottom of the seventh. The Wolves then fell 12-1 after five innings to the Soaring Eagles.

Keuka College 1 vs Elmira College 0 – Game One
The Wolves and Soaring Eagles found themselves in a hard-fought battle in game one. The Green & Gold struggled to put offense together for the first few innings. Olivia Flynn (Williamson, N.Y. / Williamson) and Makenna DeMoney (Conklin, N.Y. / Susquehanna Valley) were the only two Wolves to hit their way on base throughout the first five innings.

The game went into the seventh inning scoreless, and the Soaring Eagles were unable to put a run on the board against Kelsey Mohl’s (Averill Park, N.Y. / Averill Park) shutdown pitching. The Wolves found their offense in the bottom of the seventh. Makenna DeMoney led off the inning with a walk. Olivia Flynn singled to right field and Grace Eagen (Buffalo, N.Y. / West Seneca West) bunted for a hit to load the bases with one out. The Wolves got to two outs in the inning, but Kaitlyn Holland (Leicester, N.Y. / York) came up big for the Wolves with a single to center field to score the winning run for the Wolves.

Lead Wolf: Kelsey Mohl had a career game on the mound for her Senior Day. Mohl threw her first career shutout along with her first complete game of the 2023 season. The Senior also struck out six batters, a new personal best.

Keuka College 1 vs Elmira College – Game Two – Five Innings
The Soaring Eagles were quick to strike back in game two. Elmira put up seven runs in the top of the first inning followed by two more in the second to make the score 9-0.

The Wolves managed to score one run in the bottom of the second after Emily Cutrona (Buffalo, N.Y. / West Seneca West) singled to right field. Cutrona advanced to third off a wild pitch and a groundout from Holland. Joan Carroll (Oswego, N.Y. / Oswego) singled to right centerfield to score Cutrona and put the Wolves on the board.

The Soaring Eagles would score three more in the top of the fifth ending the game 12-1 after five innings.

Lead Wolf: Joan Carroll had the big hit for the Wolves in game two with the only RBI for the Green & Gold.

  • The Keuka College Softball team is 11-27 all-time against Elmira College.
  • Caitlynne Marczyk (Livonia, N.Y. / Livonia) recorded her first career hit in game two of today’s doubleheader.
  • Kelsey Mohl threw her first career shutout in the circle along with her first complete game of the season. She also struck out six batters, a new personal best.
  • The team now has 291 hits this season, the fourth highest in program history.
