The Keuka College Softball team dropped a pair of games to open their 2025 season as a part of The Spring Games in Florida.
Keuka College (0-2) lost the opener to the University of Scranton 11-1 and then fell to Bates College in the nightcap 9-1. Both games went five innings.
University of Scranton 11 vs. Keuka College 1 (5 inn.)
The University of Scranton scored in the top of the first to take the early lead over the Wolves. Emily Cutrona (Buffalo, N.Y. / West Seneca West) led off the bottom of the first with a walk and stole second. However, she would get stranded there.
The Royals added to their lead with four runs in both the third and the fourth innings. They added two more runs in the fifth.
Keuka College got on the board in the fifth inning. Cutrona doubled with two outs and then scored on a Scranton error to break the shutout, but the Wolves would fall 11-1.
Lead Wolf: To go along with Cutrona’s hit, Hailey Jasinski (Buffalo, N.Y. / North Collins) went 2-2 at the plate with a walk. The duo accounted for all of Keuka’s hits in the game.
Bates College 9 vs. Keuka College 1 (5 inn.)
The Wolves wasted no time in the second game. Olivia Flynn (Williamson, N.Y. / Williamson) doubled to left center. She then scored on a double by Hailey Jasinski. Bates tied the game in the bottom of the inning, however.
The Wolves looked to answer right back as Haley Mascho (Bolivar, N.Y. / Bolivar-Richburg) led the second off with a walk and Kaylin Ritenour (Madison, Pa. / Yough) followed with a bunt single to put two on with no outs. However, the next three batters would be retired. The Bobcats used that momentum to score six in the bottom of the second to take control of the game.
Bates would add a run in the fourth and then single home a run in the bottom of the fifth to end the game in five innings.
Lead Wolf: Jasinski again proved to be the key offensive weapon for the Green and Gold. The sophomore had two of Keuka’s four hits including her RBI double in the first inning.
Up Next for Keuka College: The Wolves continue their spring trip on Tuesday. Keuka College will face Buffalo State at 11:15 a.m. and then follow that with a game against Keene State College at 2:00 p.m.
