The Keuka College Softball team played their first home games of the season on Wednesday, but the Wolves fell to SUNY Brockport in a pair of Empire 8 Conference games.
Keuka College (2-17, 0-6 Empire 8) scored five in the final two innings of game one, but the comeback effort was not enough as Brockport won 7-5. The Golden Eagles then topped the Wolves 6-3 in game two for the sweep.
SUNY Brockport 7 at Keuka College 5 – Game 1
The Golden Eagles scored in the first, second, and fourth innings to build a 5-0 lead over the Wolves.
Keuka College cut into the margin in the bottom of the sixth. The Wolves had three straight hits with two outs to get on the board. An infield single by Giana Mruczek (Batavia, N.Y. / Batavia) loaded the bases. Grace Eagen (Buffalo, N.Y. / West Seneca West) followed with a single to score a pair of runs. Emily Cutrona (Buffalo, N.Y. / West Seneca West) followed with an infield single to load the bases again, but a groundout ended the inning.
Brockport responded in the seventh. After scoring one in the inning, it appeared Keuka College threw out the runner at the plate to end the inning, but obstruction was called on the Wolves allowing the run to extend Brockport’s lead to 7-2.
Paige Granger (Camden, N.Y. / Camden) led off the seventh with a single for the Wolves. Katie Landers (Batavia, N.Y. / Batavia Notre Dame) pinch ran for the Wolves and scored on a double by Kaylin Ritenour (Madison, Pa. / Yough). Two more came in for the Wolves on an error, but the game would end with a flyout as the Golden Eagles defeated Keuka 7-5.
SUNY Brockport 6 at Keuka College 3 – Game 2
Brockport looked to take the lead in the second inning, but the Wolves threw out a runner at home trying to score on a double steal to keep the game scoreless.
The Golden Eagles did push across three runs in the third, but Keuka had an answer. Haley Mascho (Bolivar, N.Y. / Bolivar-Richburg) led the inning off with a single. Paige Granger walked, and the duo scored on a double to the right centerfield wall by Hailey Jasinski (Buffalo, N.Y. / North Collins) to make it 3-3. Makenna DeMoney (Conklin, N.Y. / Susquehanna Valley) followed with a single to score Jasinski and tie the game.
