The Keuka College Softball team lost a pair of games on Thursday in The Spring Games as a part of their spring break trip to Florida.
Keuka College (0-6) lost to the University of Southern Maine 8-2 in their first game of the day. The Wolves then fell to Framingham State 6-1 to close the day.
University of Southern Maine 8 vs. Keuka College 2
The Huskies took a lead in the top of the first against the Wolves and then added three more in the second for the 4-0 advantage.
The Green and Gold got on the board in the bottom of the third. Emily Cutrona (Buffalo, N.Y. / West Seneca West) worked a two-out walk and stole second. She came home on an RBI double to left by Olivia Flynn (Williamson, N.Y. / Williamson). Hailey Jasinski (Buffalo, N.Y. / North Collins) followed with a single to center to score Flynn and make it 4-2 in favor of the Huskies.
The Wolves looked for two-out magic again in the fourth as Kaylin Ritenour (Madison, Pa. / Yough) doubled down the leftfield line, but she would be stranded at second.
Southern Maine would add three runs in the sixth and an additional run in the seventh to defeat the Wolves 8-2.
Framingham State University 6 vs. Keuka College 1
The Rams scored four in the bottom of the first for the early advantage over the Wolves. That score held until the fourth when Haily Jasinski led off the frame with a triple to left centerfield. She scored on an RBI groundout by Haley Mascho (Bolivar, N.Y. / Bolivar-Richburg) to make it 4-1.
Framingham State would hold the Wolves there. They added a pair of insurance runs in the fifth to defeat the Wolves 6-1.
KC Notes:
- Thursday was the first ever meetings for Keuka College Softball against the University and Southern Maine and Framingham State University. Following the Southern Maine game, the Wolves are 0-3 all-time against current teams from the Little East Conference.
- It was the first time the Wolves faced Framingham State University and just the second game against a team from the Massachusetts Small College Athletic Conference
- Giana Mruczek (Batavia, N.Y. / Batavia) had a pair of strikeouts in 1.1 innings of relief work in game one
- The double for Kaylin Ritenour was the first extra-base hit of her career
- Emily Cutrona stole the 23rd base of her career. The senior sits in ninth on the career list at Keuka College
Up Next for Keuka College: The Wolves close out their spring trip on Friday. Keuka College will face St. Lawrence University first and then follow that with a game against nationally ranked Wisconsin-Stevens Point to close the trip.
