Keuka Men’s Soccer Falls to SUNY Potsdam

SHARE NOW

The Keuka College Men’s Soccer team lost at home on Wednesday, falling to SUNY Potsdam 2-1 in a non-conference game at the Jephson Community Athletic Complex.

Keuka College (0-3) got three saves in goal from senior keeper Cory Cangemi (Marcellus, N.Y. / Marcellus).

The Bears were patient with their possession, passing the ball along the back line and looking for their best offensive opportunity. Their patience paid off as they got a corner kick and capitalized. The ball was loose in the box, found an attacker, and was put in the back of the net for the 1-0 lead. The Wolves pulled level in the 14th minute as a bouncing ball was played into the box. The Potsdam defender attempted to clear the ball away, mishit it, and put it into the back of the goal to make it 1-1. The game shifted in the 33rd as a second yellow card was called against the same Keuka player causing the Wolves to play a man down for the rest of the game. Five minutes later, a long ball stretched the field for Potsdam and the Bears took the 2-1 lead.

Keuka was able to settle into playing with 10 men following the halftime break. The Wolves were able to control the Potsdam threats and limit the Bears to just three shots on goal. Cangemi made all three saves. However, with the disadvantage in personnel, the Wolves were unable to mount a comeback. The Green and Gold got one shot in the half, but it was wide. Potsdam would defeat the Wolves 2-1.

KC Notes:

  • Keuka College is now 2-3-2 all-time against SUNY Potsdam
  • The series has been close. Six of the last seven games have been one-goal games or draws, four of which have gone to overtime
  • Overall, the Bears outshot the Wolves 20-3, but shots on goal were only 5-1

Up Next for Keuka College: The Wolves will begin Empire 8 Conference play this weekend. The Green and Gold will host Alfred University at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14 at the Jephson Community Athletic Complex. A second-half goal by the Wolves secured a draw for Keuka College at Alfred University last season.
