The Keuka College Men’s Soccer team fell to SUNY Poly 4-0 on the road in Empire 8 play on Saturday afternoon in Utica.
The defensive effort was led by goalkeeper Cory Cangemi (Marcellus, N.Y. / Marcellus), who recorded 10 saves.
SUNY Poly got off to a fast start, finding the back of the net just over three minutes into the match. The Wildcats doubled their lead at the nine-minute mark. Keuka struggled to gain offensive momentum, with the Wolves’ best chance coming in the 20th minute when the SUNY Poly goalkeeper saved Owen Thorpe’s (Horseheads, N.Y. / Horseheads) shot. The Wildcats would score twice more, including a penalty kick, to take a commanding 4-0 lead going into halftime.
The second half saw Keuka College increase their defensive pressure, holding SUNY Poly scoreless. Cangemi continued his strong play in goal, making several key stops, including a pair of saves on back-to-back shots in the 83rd minute. Offensively, the Wolves generated a few chances, with Cole Santiago (Rochester, N.Y. / Rush Henrietta) testing the SUNY Poly keeper late in the match, but Keuka was unable to capitalize. The Wildcats held onto their lead to win the game 4-0.
