The Keuka College Men’s Soccer team faced off against Elmira College on Wednesday afternoon in an Empire 8 Conference clash, falling 2-0.
The defensive effort was led by goalkeeper Cory Cangemi (Marcellus, N.Y. / Marcellus), who recorded 10 saves.
Both teams battled in a scoreless first half, with Elmira taking control early and outshooting Keuka 15-0. Cangemi was tested early, making key saves to keep the game even, including a critical stop in the 14th minute. Keuka’s defense held strong despite constant pressure, surviving multiple corner kicks and shots from Elmira’s offense.
The second half saw Elmira break through in the 49th minute, to go ahead 1-0. Keuka fought back, with their first shot of the match coming in the 53rd minute from Cole Santiago (Rochester, N.Y./ Rush Henrietta) but the shot went wide. Elmira doubled their lead in the 64th minute. Keuka managed four shots in the half but could not convert, with their final attempt coming from Tristan Reed (Hamden, N.Y. / Downsville) in the 88th minute, which sailed just wide. Elmira held on to win the game 2-0.
Up Next for Keuka College: Keuka College will stay on the road for another conference matchup. The Wolves are set to face Russell Sage College on Saturday, October 19.
