The Wolves scored the first 11 goals of the game and never looked back as the Keuka College Men’s Lacrosse team defeated Thiel College 17-4 on Wednesday at the Jephson Community Athletic Complex.
Nine different Wolves found the back of the net led by Mitchell Wise (Greece, N.Y. / Hilton) with five goals. Harrison Root (Jefferson, N.J. / Jefferson Township), Logan Crannell (Oswego, N.Y. / Oswego), and Austin Holsclaw (Queensbury, N.Y. / Queensbury) all notched multi-goal games for Keuka College (1-1) with Root getting the hat trick and Crannell and Holsclaw scoring a pair.
The Wolves took advantage of a Tomcat penalty and scored five minutes into the contest for the lead. Root got the extra-man goal with Tre Lloyd (Canandaigua, N.Y. / Canandaigua Academy) getting the assist. Keuka College took possession of the game with Wise and Lloyd scoring goals minutes later. Kaleb Glessing (Ontario, N.Y. / Wayne) added a goal and then Mitchell Wise capped the scoring with 21 seconds left in the quarter to give the Wolves a 5-0 advantage after one.
The run continued for the Wolves in the second. George Durkin (Rochester, N.Y. / Aquinas Institute) caused a turnover, collected the groundball, and started a clear. The ball found the stick of Mitchell Wise who dished it to a cutting Daniel Rustay (Camillus, N.Y. / West Genesee) for the goal. Wise completed his hat trick and then added a fourth minutes later. The Wolves scored three more to push the run to 11 unanswered. Defensemen Logan McMurtry (Rochester, N.Y. / Gates-Chili) capped the run for the Wolves. Thiel snapped the run, but Wise had one final goal for the half as the Wolves led 12-1 at the break.
Keuka College won the opening faceoff of the second half and took advantage of the possession, with Austin Holsclaw scoring his first goal. The Tomcats responded, but the Wolves kept their offense rolling. Three more goals for Keuka closed the third quarter, with Crannell, Root, and Aiden Nice (Palmyra, N.Y. / Palmyra-Macedon) scoring, as the Wolves took a 16-2 lead into the final quarter.
Another nice transition goal greeted the Wolves in the fourth quarter. Toby Tummino (LaFayette, N.Y. / LaFayette) stick-checked the Thiel attacker and the loose ball was collected by Kaiden Larsen (Phelps, N.Y. / Midlakes). Larsen passed it back to Tummino who streaked down the field. He passed it off to Austin Holsclaw for the goal as the Wolves led 17-2. The Tomcats scored a pair of goals late, but the game was in hand as the Wolves earned the 17-4 victory.
