The Keuka College Men’s Lacrosse team lost their season-opening game on Saturday, falling to Marywood University 7-4 at the Jephson Community Athletic Complex.
First-year goalie Jaxson Tucker (Canandaigua, N.Y. / Canandaigua Academy) made 17 saves for Keuka College (0-1). Tre Lloyd (Canandaigua, N.Y. / Canandaigua Academy) impacted three of the four Keuka goals with a goal and a pair of assists against the Pacers.
Keuka College got out to a fast start as the Wolves won the opening faceoff and controlled possession. Mitchell Wise (Greece, N.Y. / Hilton) scored for the Wolves two minutes into the season. Tucker was called upon for a pair of saves in the frame. Keuka doubled their lead late in the first as Tre Lloyd snuck a pass from behind the net and over the crossbar to Kaleb Glessing (Ontario, N.Y. / Wayne) in front of the cage to make it 2-0.
Marywood controlled the play in the second quarter as the Wolves went 3-10 attempting to clear the ball. The Pacers matched Keuka’s 2-0 quarter from the first with a pair of goals in the second as the game went to halftime tied 2-2.
The visitors took the lead in the opening minutes of the second half. Marywood looked to add to their advantage as Keuka had to play a man-down for three minutes and thirty seconds, but the Wolves killed it all off. The momentum of the kill led to a goal by Tre Lloyd as the Wolves tied the game at 3-3. It would stay tied for only minutes, however, as Marywood found the back of the goal to make it 4-3. The Pacers added to their lead with two minutes remaining in the third and took a 5-3 advantage into the final quarter.
The run continued for Marywood with a goal five minutes into the fourth. Keuka pulled one back as Harrison Root (Jefferson, N.J. / Jefferson Township) scored for the Wolves with 5:38 left to play. Marywood would work the clock down and scored before the shot clock expired with 1:37 remaining in the game to push the margin to three. The Wolves had a man-up opportunity in the final minute but were unable to capitalize as Keuka College fell to Marywood 7-4.
