SHARE NOW

The Keuka College men’s basketball team traveled to SUNY Geneseo for its first conference game of the season and came up short, falling 64-58.

Sophomore forward Makya Morrison (Oneonta, N.Y./Oneonta) recorded a collegiate-high five blocks while also posting his second double-double of the season with 11 points and 11 rebounds for the Green and Gold.

SUNY Geneseo (4-4, 1-0 Empire 8) jumped out to a fast start with six unanswered points before Lamar Lovelace (Rochester, N.Y./Northeast College Prep) got Keuka (2-7, 0-1 Empire 8) on the board. The Knights controlled early play, holding a 21–14 advantage midway through the first half.

Keuka responded with a 10-point run, sparked by a balanced effort including four points from Akinlana Popoola (Cleveland, Ohio/Padua Franciscan), giving the Wolves a brief lead. Geneseo answered with an 11–4 run to close the half, taking a six-point lead into the break.

In the second half, both teams traded baskets as Keuka tried to mount a comeback, but the Knights matched every run. Geneseo extended its lead to 11 points with a 6–0 run, but the Wolves countered with six straight points. Popoola then keyed an 11–2 run, scoring six points — including four from the free-throw line — and Chase Welch (Buffalo, N.Y./The Park School) capped the run with a fast-break 3-pointer to tie the game at 54–54.

Lovelace hit two free throws to give Keuka a brief lead, but Geneseo regained the advantage with a 3-pointer with 1:30 remaining. Keuka had opportunities down the stretch, but a goaltending call with 18 seconds left helped seal the win for the Knights.
